What are the forces behind ungodly living?
We need to know that behind every ungodliness there is a spirit. What are the spirits? (Anywhere where you see spirit in the scripture it talks about the Holy spirit)
(a). The spirit of disobedience – The spirit of disobedience is responsible for every act of disobedience to scriptural injunctions. It takes a stronger spirit to destroy the weaker spirit. I pray that you receive fresh baptism of the spirit of obedience in the name of Jesus.
“Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience:” – Eph.2:2
“And I will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and ye shall keep my judgments, and do them .” – Ez.36:27
The spirit of disobedience at work explains why a smoker will not stop smoking even when it’s written on cigarette that he will die young. It baffles me, this is out of ordinary. There are some people that have lost a quantum number of their years to the smoking of cigarette. Cigarette is a satanic addiction!
(b). The spirit of lies – Lies erode our redemptive dignity in Christ. It washes away our royalty. Lies as tiny as it is disqualifies for heaven.
“Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city. [15] For without are dogs, and sorcerers, and whoremongers, and murderers, and idolaters, and whosoever loveth and maketh a lie.” – Rev.22:14-15
“He that worketh deceit shall not dwell within my house: he that telleth lies shall not tarry in my sight.” – PS.101:7
How do I overcome ungodly living?
(I). Faith – Believe in perfection. It’s what you believe that you’re empowered to become. You’re what you think (Prov.27:3). If you think that perfection is not possible you will never come close to perfect.
“Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.” – Mat.5:48
(ii). Watch out for wrong association – Friendship is not by force, it’s by choice. There is no association that leaves you neutral; your friends can either make you or break you.
“Be not deceived: evil communications corrupt good manners.” – 1.Cor.15:33
“He that walketh with wise men shall be wise: but a companion of fools shall be destroyed.” – prov.13:20
(iii). Prayer – Prayer against temptation is a prayer to pray. Consciously cultivate the habit of praying against temptation on a daily basis.
“And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.” – Mat.6:13
(iv). Fasting – There is a yoke destroying power in fasting. Unwanted habits like Lesbianism, masturbation, stealing, smoking, corruption, bribery, lieing, etc can only give way and be done away with by fasting and prayer.
“Is not this the fast that I have chosen? to loose the bands of wickedness, to undo the heavy burdens, and to let the oppressed go free, and that ye break every yoke?” – Is.58:6
(v). Choice – Our choice is our greatest weapon against ungodliness. Godliness is primarily a function of choice. Life is all about issue of choices and not chances. Our choice can overrun sin. Daniel was enthroned by choice.
“But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king’s meat, nor with the wine which he drank: therefore he requested of the prince of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself.” – Dan.1:8
