What are you considering as priorities? What are you idolizing without knowing? You have only one life, are you wasting it? Or are you making the most of it?

Many people might say that their priorities are: families, friends, kids, spouses, careers, jobs, and businesses.

But the truth is that all these are far from it. As a genuine Christian, your number one priority should be God.

You can love your spouse, job and career (there is nothing wrong about that) but never allow your God to be packed under the bus in a world that is filled with busyness and seriousness.

When you miss your priority, other things will fall apart but when you get it right, other things will fall in line.

What are your object of worships? What occupies the place of God in your life?

Your god’s object can be your smartphone. This can be the last thing you touch before you sleep in the night and the very first thing you press when you’re awake. Watch out for this: as one of the dangers of this is destiny’s being stolen and abated.

Your god’s object may be your TV box – If this is stealing your time, it’s stealing your destiny. Who are you watching for? Who will watch you? Not as if it’s bad, but it must be controlled by discipline. Watch out!

Your god’s object can be a ‘celeb’ or a ‘Spiritual father.’ While following somebody is normal and vital to make the most of your journey in life but you must not idolized him/her.

For instance, here, many people know more about the European Premier League (EPL) than they know about themselves, not even to talk about their bibles but when the devil strikes, it’s the word that you will go for. Then, the storms of life can be withstood.

Your god’s object can be your spouse. While loving your spouse as yourself is biblical but you must not misplace the order of priority. God first, you & your spouse last. Let this be your rule of thumb and your relationship will be like heaven on earth.

Your god’s object may be your work. While work is good but it must not steal away your time with God.

When God created a man, He gave him a work to do. Jesus told us that His father works hitherto. If God stop working, none will be alive. It’s your work that pays your bill. Doing nothing is what frustrates people. I can go on to reveal the significance of working but it must be understood that work can become a toil when priority is misplaced.

Frankly speaking, any work that does not allow you to serve god should be reexamined. A work that doesn’t allows you to preach the gospel to the poor, heal the broken hearted and wounded souls can be toiling.

The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, (Luke.4:18)

Your god’s object may be your education and training. While training up is your way up but it must not be considered as critical than God’s interests.

Your god’s object can be your career. While pursuing a career is not bad but run it with God.

Beware of bending. Stop fitting God into your plans and schedules but make Him your plans and schedules.

The devil is a good devil. Idols are no longer in only stones, sticks and other inanimate objects. The 21st century idols are now more abstractive. Your friends, families, spouses, smart phones and social media outlets can be idolized without knowing.

Let the highest premium be placed on the things of God and all other things will follow. It works like fire. The things that others are dying to get will die to get to you.

Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. (Mat.6:10/33)

All what God is asking you to do is to make a little for Him first and all other things will become additions.

And Elijah said unto her, Fear not; go and do as thou hast said: but make me thereof a little cake first, and bring it unto me, and after make for thee and for thy son. (1kings.17:13)

  1. The scary part about this is that we create idols for ourselves without even realizing it.

Consider a woman whose whole identity is tied up in her kids, thus motherhood is her idol. The family attends church but never really gets involved. Her husband, feeling neglected, finds companionship elsewhere. This story is repeated all too often in every community across the globe.

If the woman & her husband made God the center of their lives & their relationship. All this would have been avoided.

Please do not misunderstand me, we are called to love, protect & raise our children to love God. But, parenting should be our 3rd priority, not the 1st.

    1. I love your comment. We create idols for ourselves even without knowing, I agree with that. Thanks for sharing that story with me. Our relationships can’t be rooted in God and be shattered. Parents should love their kids but not more than God. For me, God first, my spouse second, when I have kids, they will be third. Thanks for reading and commenting. God bless you☺
