The Mystery of Vision

Vision is the destination revealed. When you have a vision you’ll know your destination. When you know your destination, it would be easy to know the road that won’t take you there.

There are too many good roads in life. But not all the good roads can take you to your destination. Only the right road will take you there. Many of us are like Martha, we are too busy with too many things and try to get others involved in our busyness. A jack of too many trades, master of none. May you know that one thing you were born to do in life and stick with it!

Wait a minute: if you are going to do well with life, first you need to discover your purpose, and second, build your vision around it. With that, you already know your destination. When your destination is known, it would be easy to say no to opportunities that do not sync with your vision.

The enemy of right is not wrong, but good. The devil uses some good things to distract you from doing the right thing. Your purpose is the right thing for you to commit your time, energy and resources to but the enemy would want to distract you with good opportunities. This is why there are so many world-class industrialists who have become slaves overseas.

Understand these

  1. Vision is more important than money.
  2. Any vision that is about the self will fail (vision is about people).
  3. Vision does not actualize on its own.
  4. Vision must be written.
  5. A vision statement is different from a mission statement.
  6. Vision attracts provisions.
  7. Vision makes you see beyond your present situation.
  8. Vision is of the mind; looking is of the sight.

Vision is more important than money

If money is your most priority in life, you’ll never be fulfilled. Many have buried their vision just because they want to make money – so they throw away their baby (vision) pursuing money. This is one of the reasons why many children and wives are fatherless – because their husbands are chasing after the shadows of money, so they got no time for their families. As a result, they ended up producing wayward children who became trouble for society.

Any self-centered vision will fail

Every true vision will always add value to people’s life. If your vision is not after improving people, I doubt if it’s from God. When Jesus had His vision, it was always about people and not Himself. The Spirit of the Lord is upon me because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised (Luke 4:18). If you ask someone who wants to start a business today, why do you want to start a business? The first thing he is going to tell you is money. We are in a generation of self-centered people where young people steal and murder for money.

Vision does not actualize on its own

You don’t have to do anything to make your vision fail. Vision is a seed. Self-sacrifice is the manure that makes your vision become a tree. Vision demands personal sacrifice (discipline) to actualize. It’s not enough to have a vision but to run with it. All true vision will always put the visionary on the run (See Jeremiah.20:9). Life is a race. In a race, say an Olympic race, many people are involved in the race but only one person emerged as the prize winner. In football, there are 22 players on the pitch, but only a few people are the real stars. There are no stars without scars. To emerge as a star in any sport, you would have to train and practice more than others. Nothing is extraordinary on its own, it’s our extraordinary efforts that make it so. You need to add that extra, or else it would be ordinary. You cannot have a vision and sleep with it under your cover cloth and expect it to fulfil. You must pay the price that is required to make it a reality. Sacrifice is what you need to service your dead vision.

Vision must be written

The book of Proverbs.29:19 tells us that where there is no vision the people perish. A government that has no vision or lacks the discipline to make it work will always be a burden to its people (Africans suffer that a lot. Here, we have so plenty of political rulers who misappropriate public funds for personal use. People will only remember what you do not your position). The book of Habakkuk.2:2 went further that we should write our vision and make it plain on the table. I challenge you reading this post today, go and find a quiet place & seek God for your life vision & write it down. Living without a vision is more tragic than death. You need to discover the motivation for your creation and build your life around it.

A vision statement is different from a mission statement

A vision is a statement that must be specific while a mission statement is general. For instance, meeting the people’s clothing needs can be the mission statement for somebody who is into a clothing business; meeting children’s clothing needs could be the vision statement. When you have a good vision statement, you would be unique in business and there won’t be any reason to compete with anyone. Because your line of business is different.

Vision attracts provision

People don’t give to the visionary; people give to the vision. When you go to the bank to secure a loan for a business, the bank gives you the loan for the business and not for you. More importantly, God has a budget for His projects on earth. The psalmist says the Lord is my shepherd I shall not want. When a vision is from God, He provides. If you can do what you do without God’s involvement, then it’s not from God (that’s why your life is difficult, you have to pay for everything by yourself). A vision from God will always require a supply from heaven. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts. (Isaiah.55:9)

Vision makes you see beyond your present situation

Until you begin to have visions you will never see beyond your present conditions. Life without a vision is limiting. It reduces your life to your present circumstances. But vision will always stretch you beyond the limit of your present conditions. Vision is a well-defined faith. It’s believing God for a greater height with clarity. Remember, God cannot perform what you don’t believe (See Luke.1:45).

Vision is of the mind; looking is of the sight

There is a difference between looking and seeing. While you use your eyes to look; you use your mind to see. When God told Abraham, from where he was, to look eastward, westward, southward, and northern all the land he sees, would be given to him and his seeds. God did not expect Abraham to see all that with his physical eyes-He must be talking about the mind-eye. God answers thoughts in as much as He answers prayers (See Ephesians.3:20). There is the power of imagination that can make you have it the way you want it. You are what you think (See Proverbs.18:21). Don’t limit your vision to your present condition looking. Your condition is not your portion.

Conclusion

Vision is your destination. When you know your vision, you already know your destination. And when your destination is known, it would be very easy to know the roads that won’t take you there. Take note of these points:

  • Vision is more important than money.
  • Any self-centered vision will fail.
  • Vision does not actualize on its own.
  • A vision must be well-written and documented (if possible you could reduce your vision to one sentence).
  • A vision statement is specific while a mission statement is general.
  • Vision makes you see beyond your present conditions.
  • Vision is captured in the mind.
