Stewardship means granting a trust to someone for profitable use.
Luke 12:42-48 KJV
“And the Lord said, Who then is that faithful and wise steward, whom his lord shall make ruler over his household, to give them their portion of meat in due season? [43] Blessed is that servant, whom his lord when he cometh shall find so doing. [44] Of a truth I say unto you, that he will make him ruler over all that he hath. [45] But and if that servant say in his heart, My lord delayeth his coming; and shall begin to beat the menservants and maidens, and to eat and drink, and to be drunken; [46] The lord of that servant will come in a day when he looketh not for him , and at an hour when he is not aware, and will cut him in sunder, and will appoint him his portion with the unbelievers. [47] And that servant, which knew his lord’s will, and prepared not himself , neither did according to his will, shall be beaten with many stripes . [48] But he that knew not, and did commit things worthy of stripes, shall be beaten with few stripes . For unto whomsoever much is given, of him shall be much required: and to whom men have committed much, of him they will ask the more.”
1. Stewardship is a gift to invest (Mat. 25:13-15). If we read these verses, we will understand what our heavenly father makes.
PS.24:1. The earth is the lord and the fullness thereof, the world and they that dwell therein. Therefore, all of us are His creatures.
He was sent to us for our salvation. Jesus said in Jn.9:41, I must work the works of Him that sent me while it’s a day the night cometh when no man can work.
He also want us to perform like Him (Jn.15:16 & Jn 13:16-17). “You have not chosen me, but I have chosen you and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit and that your fruit should remain that whatsoever ye shall ask of the father in my name, He may give it to you (KJV). ” SO, we have responsibility which has been given by God.
2. Giving for a purpose –
Luke 16:1-9 KJV
And he said also unto his disciples, There was a certain rich man, which had a steward; and the same was accused unto him that he had wasted his goods. [2] And he called him, and said unto him, How is it that I hear this of thee? give an account of thy stewardship; for thou mayest be no longer steward. [3] Then the steward said within himself, What shall I do? for my lord taketh away from me the stewardship: I cannot dig; to beg I am ashamed. [4] I am resolved what to do, that, when I am put out of the stewardship, they may receive me into their houses. [5] So he called every one of his lord’s debtors unto him , and said unto the first, How much owest thou unto my lord? [6] And he said, An hundred measures of oil. And he said unto him, Take thy bill, and sit down quickly, and write fifty. [7] Then said he to another, And how much owest thou? And he said, An hundred measures of wheat. And he said unto him, Take thy bill, and write fourscore. [8] And the lord commended the unjust steward, because he had done wisely: for the children of this world are in their generation wiser than the children of light. [9] And I say unto you, Make to yourselves friends of the mammon of unrighteousness; that, when ye fail, they may receive you into everlasting habitations. My reader, this is the problem we have in churches and the whole world. Stewardship is given for a purpose but we are not using it for God’s purpose.
When we read Acts of Apostle 4:32 _ And the multitudes of them that believe were of one heart of one soul, neither said any of them that ought of the things which He possessed was his own but they had all things in common. Churches have diverted from the laid down principles of Apostles and command of Jesus Christ.
In the world today, people are not fearing God who is the General overseer of every man’s deed. Stealing, corruption, etc have deepened down into the system even including the so called Children of God.
Remember, in the book of Rev 22:11-12, he that is unjust let him be unjust still and he which is filthy let him be filthy still, that is righteous let him be righteous still and he that is holy let him be holy still. 12, And behold I come quickly and my reward is with me to give everyman according to his works shall be.
3. Benefit of giving life style – It’s a style of living that reflect the attitude and values of a person or group. In the book of Dan.6:4-5 Then the president and prince sought to find occasion against Daniel concerning the kingdom but they could find none occasions nor fault forasmuch as he was faithful, neither was there any error or fault found in him. If you as a christian can do like Daniel then your heaven is certain (Mat.25:31-34). Read and see the reward of a good steward. God will blessed you as you put it into practice.
