The Secret of Rest

The secret of rest

Rest is the cardinal mark of faith. When Jesus told the fig tree to dried up, He did not stay there to watch if it would happen because of His confidence in the power of God, He left. It was His disciples who later saw that the decree that Jesus issued Has come to be (Mark.11:20).

There is a place of rest that you must have entered before God comes in. Your being fretted and despondent will not move God. In a doubled wrestling matches, a partner outside the ring must tap the hands of the one inside the ring before he comes inside, failure to do so is regarded as a foul play. So also, you will need to tap God’s hands for him to comes in.

Hannah cried and worried, she was fretted and heavied. But, when she came out of her worries and put a vow on her request, went home and worried no more, then God came in. The result – she got a baby. 1.Sam.1:10-20

It is the jet set age with so much jostling and bustling here and there, even Christians are caught up in the web. People are running helter skelter. A good Christian will always be composed because of his conscious of God’s presence.

During Jesus earthly ministry, there was no strain found in Him, He was always composed and calmed. Even when His disciples were ruled by the fear of the storm, He could afford to sleep because He was very conscious that God’s presence – though I don’t believe that Jesus was actually sleeping since He could see there troubles, but He was at comfort.

What can you do about it? What are you going to eat, drink, wear are always clamouring for your attention. Did you know that there are some Christians even when they are praying their minds will be racing from one issue to another: thinking of how to pay the school fees of the children who are about to resume in a week time, how to deal with a disrespectful house wise who doesn’t know how to respect her husband, etc – he has not prayed intelligent for a single item yet thereby rendering the whole process ineffective.

Don’t think that your much worries and cries  will ever move God. God has not called you to meditate on your problems, but he has called you to meditate on his word and obey them.

“This book of law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous and have good success.” Jos.1:8

If you wait for something spectacular to drop from heaven before you put His word to work, you will wait for ever.

Ceased from all fruitless labour and enter into a place of rest in our lord Jesus Christ.
