The Art of Making Impacts

There are no entitlements in titles. There are no values in degrees but deliveries. Performance is what gives value to your degrees. The world doesn’t care about your certificates. The world cares about your discoveries.

Leadership is not about occupying a seat. It’s about realizing a feat. Nobody is interested in your position. Your contribution is what matters to the world. It’s not about your possession but your distribution. Leadership is not about leading people; it’s about taking the lead. It’s about leading a course, finding a path, blazing the trail and breaking the norms. It’s about doing something different. What makes a good leader?

(1) Vision

A good leader is a visionary. If you don’t know where you are going, anywhere may look like it. It’s not enough to have a vision. You must run with the vision. Many people have great visions that have become dormant. Sacrifice is what you need to service your dead vision. A vision without a commitment to pursue the vision with a high level of discipline would be buried.

Every true vision will always put the visionary on the run. Nelson Mandela, an exemplar of a true visionary.

Then I said, “I will not make mention of Him, nor speak any more in His name.” But His word was in mine heart as a burning fire shut up in my bones; and I was weary with forbearing, and I could not hold back. Jer.20:19

To follow your dream you must engage with the law of total abandonment. This means you must be ready to give up all other things that won’t make your vision live. (Jesus told the disciples to give up all things to follow Him).

Then Peter answered and said to Him, “See, we have left all and followed You. Therefore what shall we have?” Mat.19:27

Vision is for the youth. In Act.2:27, the scripture says that, that your young men shall see the vision. Early to rise, early to shine. Joseph started dreaming at 17. Jesus knew that He must be about his father’s business at 12. Timely discovery of where you belong and being committed to staying there is the best way to maximize destiny. There are some certain things that you can do when you are still young that you won’t be able to do again when you are old. Energy level diminishes with age. You’re a day older than yesterday. By tomorrow, you are a day older than today. This is your best hour to go after your vision in full. length.

(2) Impact Driven

A good leader must be impact-driven. Life isn’t about making a living. It’s about making an impact. Most people are making a living while only a few people are making an impact. The ones making an impact are the ones called ‘stars’. Life isn’t about what you take, but what you give. It’s not about your possession but your distribution. People will not remember your title. They’ll only remember you for your value. They’ll remember your name. Until you discover your purpose for living, your life will be only an experiment.

(3) Self Development

A good leader is an addicted learner. Education is an initiation to a lifetime of study. It teaches you how to read and write. To stop learning after graduation is to suffer degeneration. Education makes you literate. But investment in the literature creates your future. A reader today, a leader tomorrow. Michael Faraday didn’t have much education like you do, but this great icon went to developed himself to become a world-class inventor.

“If you are not building a library, you would build a mortuary.” – Bishop David Oyedepo

(4) Discipline

A good leader is a good manager of time, self, energy, and resources. In all generations, there are more workers than leaders. Because leadership is costly. You must pay the price of a leader to emerge as a leader. Leaders are those who go to work and work. Discipline is not about how difficult a task is. it’s about giving what it takes to accomplish a task. A businessman who has a TV box in his office watching News (Aljazeera news, for instance) instead to focus on his business will end up as a failure. Discipline is going the extra mile to accomplish a given task. There is nothing extraordinary on its own, it’s our extraordinary efforts that make it extraordinarily. Jesus Christ says, “how am I stretched until it’s accomplished.” Luke.12:50. Stretched out of your comfort zone.

Discipline is the soul of an army. It makes small numbers formidable; procures success to the weak, and esteem to all.George Washington

Final Thoughts

  • Leadership isn’t about leading people. it’s about taking the lead.
  • God didn’t create a man to lead another man. He created a man to lead animals and dominate his environment.
  • Leadership isn’t limited to politics and governments. There are leaders in all fields. We have business leaders, blogging leaders, aviation leaders, entertainment leaders, football, art leaders, fashion designing leaders, technology leaders, etc. If Bill Gates give a handshake to some politicians, it would go into their CVs. There are people with big titles, but little names. I don’t know the names of some ministers in my country.
  • Discipline, learning, vision, and impact are the attribute of an excellent leader.
  • We are redeemed as leaders and not as peasants. Every true child of God has a leading potential for dominion in his/her calling.
  • For your leadership seed to produce its fruit you must first discover where you belong, where you are going, how to get there, and be committed to getting there.

When God Leads…

If everybody is lucky why are you not lucky? Don’t mistake faith for luck. There are no lucky men; there are lighted men.

There is a simplicity in Christ that makes the complexity of life to become easy. The devil makes the Word look too simple to believe.

In most cases, what God tells you to do may look too simple; it may look very stupid to believe, but that’s the way out.

But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtlety, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ (2 Corinthians 11:3).

For instance, they needed wine, Jesus told them to bring water; When Jesus needed to feed 5000 people, He used a lad 5 loaves of bread.

The goal of the devil is to block your access to the light in the word of God. That’s why anything that takes you away from God is destroying you. The devil’s business is to cover your eyes of understanding with the veil of deceptions and lies. Be sensitive. The wicked will do all it takes to make you believe that all the biblical mysteries are mystical.

It works like fire. The Word of God works when you engaged with it; It works when you walk in the light of the scripture; It works when you ‘scripturalized‘ every area of your life.

For instance, plugging yourself into a covenant of tithing consistently will cause the release of supernatural (Abrahamic) blessings over your life and your business.

There are some things that God will never do for you until you have the right motive and maturity to manage them. God needs to trust you before He can entrust you to the wealthiest place of the most high.

If it’s not in your heart, it cannot be in your hand. If you cannot pay tithe when you are earning 100 nairas, you are not the one that will pay it when your income becomes six figures. If you cannot buy the plastic chair for a local church you are the one that will build a synagogue.

One thing is to be blessed; another thing is to sustain your blessings. Some follow have served God for one year but they’re no longer there; some fellows have served God for five years but they’re nowhere to be found while some fellows have been serving God for 50 years and they are still on track with Him. Obedience brought us into the reality of supernatural blessings of God, and it also demands continuous obedience to sustain them (See Deut 28 & James.1:22-25)

King Solomon got the blessing, but he allowed the wealth to take him away from God. Those of you that are into business, because of business meetings, you’ve abandoned God. Are you more executive thanking David? King David was praised 7 times a day and prayed 3 times. If you take God for granted you would be grounded. Nobody ended up at a loss serving God and the interest of His kingdom.

Caleb walked with God to the end and full and entered the land of Canaan. Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob had a covenant walk with God by complying with the terms of the covenant and the result is trans-generational blessings. Abraham must have taught Jacob how to tithe and Jacob must have taught Isaac. Abraham, a man like a nation; Isaac, a man like a nation; Jacob, a man like a nation. By obedience, Abraham became a symbol of generational blessings.

They answered and said unto him, Abraham is our father. Jesus saith unto them, If ye were Abraham’s children, ye would do the works of Abraham (John.8:39).

We’ve been taught that faith comes from hearing the word of God. In as much as that’s true, solid faith (trust) comes by hearing from God.

It’s a pity that some born-again Christians do not believe that they can hear  from God themselves. You can’t hear from God and doubt Him. When Moses heard that God had made him a god unto Pahroah, he didn’t approach Pahroah as a man but as a god. At the red sea, Moses was too sure that God was about to show another side of himself because he heard from Him.

Why did you think Abraham complied with all the dangerous instructions that he heard from God? He was dead certain that if he killed his only son, God would wake him up. Faith becomes trust by hearing from God.

When last have you heard from God? God speaks in a still small voice – rowdy people cannot pick it- He speaks to you everyday. Most people miss His voice by expecting Him to speak to them in some unrealistic ways.  Just a few people hear God talking to them directly like the days of old

And he said, Go forth, and stand upon the mount before the Lord . And, behold, the Lord passed by, and a great and strong wind rent the mountains, and brake in pieces the rocks before the Lord ; but the Lord was not in the wind: and after the wind an earthquake; but the Lord was not in the earthquake: And after the earthquake a fire; but the Lord was not in the fire: and after the fire a still small voice (1 Kings 19:11-12).

In most cases God speaks into your conscience; He also speaks through His words and nature. God can use anything to communicate to you, but you have to be sensitive to know when He speaks. The word of God is a reliable yardstick of measurement to determine whether the voice you are hearing is from God, the devil, or your voice. God does not speak contrary to His words. It’s not God that will tell you to marry an unbeliever because according to His word light and darkness cannot coexist; two cannot walk together except they agree (Amos.3:3).

God doesn’t speak to a deaf ear; He doesn’t show the whole blueprint. Until you obey the first instruction, you won’t hear the next thing – It’s step by step like Rome was built.

When God leads, you are ‘fear-free’ (God’s leading does not tense a man up, It allays all fears and deflates pressure); when God leads He makes provision; when God leads your experience is internal peace within your conscience.

The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures; he leadeth me beside the still water. He restoreth my soul; he leadeth me in the path of righteousness for his name’s sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death , I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me (Psalm.23:1-4).
